The UAP Dubai Chapter History

The UAE Dubai Chapter is a unit of the United Architects of the Philippines (UAP), the Integrated and Accredited Professional of Architects (IAPOA) in the Philippines.  The chapter came into being through the efforts of the architects working in Dubai, many of whom have just recently passed the first Foreign Licensure Examination for Architects (FLEA), headed by Arch. Arny Lana. On April 2010, the petition for the creation of the Dubai chapter, along with the Abu Dhabi Chapter, was approved by then UAP National President Arch. Ana Mangalino-Ling. The New Manila Chapter headed by Arch. Gigi Chua Chiaco sponsored the creation of these new chapters.

On May 6th 2010, the interim officers were formed and Arch. Lana became the president.

On July 23, 2010, the UAP Dubai Chapter was officially chartered and the then National President Arch. Ramon Mendoza officiated the rites, assisted by Architects Michael Ang, Ana Mangalino-Ling, and Gigi Chua Chiaco.

On November of the same year, the second FLEA was held in Abu Dhabi and more than a hundred board passers were included in the roster of members. The first ever election of officers of the Dubai Chapter was held on May 2011 at Club 7 in Park Regis Hotel in Karama, and Arch. Ronald Salcedo became the 2nd president of the chapter. Arch. Salcedo worked to have the organization registered with the Philippine Consulate, which came into fruition on the 20th of September, 2011.  Under his leadership, the chapter organized activities that focused on “nurturing” the members’ professional needs. And also, during his term, the 3rd FLEA was held and more than 52% passing rate was achieved.

On the 8th of June, 2012, the second election of officers was held at the Metropolitan Palace Hotel in Deira, and Arch. Jefferson Sibug was elected president. He has campaigned for the “professionalization of the professional organization” and the promotion of professional development among the chapter’s members.
